About Matthew Bauer

I’m a board-certified Infectious Diseases physician and healthcare leader dedicated to advancing equitable, affirming, and outcomes-driven care. Currently, I serve as Chief Medical Officer at Texas Health Action (THA), where I oversee the clinical strategy and operations supporting our mission to provide compassionate, stigma-free care with a focus on HIV prevention and treatment, LGBTQIA+ health, and sexual wellness. With a foundation in internal medicine and infectious diseases, I’ve led cross-functional teams across FQHCs and nonprofit health organizations to expand access to HIV and hepatitis C treatment, PrEP, and substance use disorder services including MOUD. I’ve successfully initiated and scaled Ryan White and EHE-funded programs and have collaborated extensively with the Ohio Department of Health on public health initiatives ranging from minority health equity projects to infectious disease outbreak response, including the mpox crisis. I’m passionate about systems innovation, value-based care, and dismantling barriers for historically underserved communities. My clinical interests center on complex HIV care, integrated primary and behavioral health models, and public health partnerships that drive real impact. I completed my medical degree at the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, residency in internal medicine at Wright State University, and fellowship in infectious diseases at The Ohio State University.
