About Matthew Begay

Upon completion of recruit training and A-school, I received orders to Naval Medical Center San Diego where I had the opportunity to work in a post-operative ward as well as the patient administration department. While serving on orders in San Diego, I was also able to continue my service with additional duties such as providing basic medical care at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in early 2019 and aboard the USNS Mercy in 2020. This assignment was carried out from March 2019 to April 2021 with following orders to The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, VA. After graduating from the Field Medical Service Technician course in Camp Pendleton, CA, I assumed duty at TBS. My position at this command enables me to provide and maintain safe training environments for all officer and enlisted personnel as they execute live fire ranges, conduct martial arts courses, and carry out field exercises. My responsibilities also include making sure Marines and Sailors are up to date on vaccinations, their deployability status, and overall health. I intend to separate from the US Navy in July of this year and continue my college education. The goal is to earn two degrees: a bachelor of science in multidisciplinary studies and a bachelor of science in nursing. This will be carried out at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
