About Matthew Beymer

My career path has been varied, but the common thread has been the need to serve a cause greater than myself. I graduated from Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in 2007 with the goal of following in the footsteps of my family members that had served in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. After much reflection, I determined that the Marine Corps commission was not for me, but I still wanted to serve. I enrolled in a Master's Program in Epidemiology and continued on to receive my PhD in Public Health. From 2011 to 2018, I served as the Lead Epidemiologist at the Los Angeles LGBT Center with the goals of reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for LGBT persons in Los Angeles and abroad. Over the course of my tenure, I was able to build a team of epidemiology analysts from a single person to a team of four (or fireteam in military jargon), publish 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and bring in over in grant money for the organization. For the past four years, I have served as a Statistician the U.S. Army Public Health Center. So far, our team has published 22 manuscripts on topics ranging from suicide to nutrition to food security. Thank you for stopping by.
