About Matthew Bourn

I graduated from California State University, Chico in December, 2014 with a BS in Computer Information Systems and a GPA of 3.84. I'm a little bit older than most recent graduates, and have spent most of my working career in various customer-facing positions. These jobs have taught me a great deal about time management, staying calm under pressure, working within a small team in a high stress environment, flexibility, adaptability, fast learning, excellent customer service, and communication skills. They also taught me the value of a college education and a professional career, which is why I enrolled in college in 2010 after a few years of traveling, adventure, fun, and a few good deeds. Having finished college, my short-term goals are to gain an understanding of, and experience in, the cyber security industry while continuing my education and earning industry certifications. My mid-term goal is to specialize in SCADA and ICS security with a focus on penetration testing, incident response, and forensics; preferably within the energy sector. Life has taught me that long-term goals are nice but rarely come to fruition as one envisions them, so I plan only to stay in the information security field because I enjoy it and I seem to be good at it.
