About Matthew Brad

It was with the Great Recession of 2008 that my eyes were opened to the importance and relevance of the Finance industry. While trying to understand the fallout from the event, my German language tutor was getting a graduate degree in Finance in the UK. During a tutoring session we were discussing his studies, and he asked me what my (then) current perception of money was. After giving a lay answer, he told me, “You should think of money as tool”. Desiring to understand the financial world around me better and learn how to use this new “tool”, I decided to pursue Finance as a career and completed my Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Finance earlier this year. With the work put in to complete my degree and my years of prior work experience, I’ve picked up many strengths along the way! The ability to communicate well with others, and always gravitate towards leadership roles. Thriving in team-based cultures with a focus on strategy and the big picture. Analytical and mathematical skills to interpret data and figure out the story from the numbers by making Power BI and Excel sing (“This is my spreadsheet. There are many like it, but this one is mine…”). All of which, along with my desire to constantly learn, feed into my passion for Finance. Using my work experience and skills I want to work with firms to optimize and run profitably, as I quite enjoy the puzzle of enabling them to do so. I am always seeking new ways to add value to the team by being a dynamic member who helps the firm run efficiently and optimize its operations. In my free time, I can be found making the most out of the mountains here in Calgary by hiking in the summers and snowboarding in the winters. You can also catch me maintaining my German or learning Italian – or planning my next trip to put those languages to use and connect with the cultures.
