About Matthew Brent

Software can be complex, and so can organizations. My strength is marrying critical organizational strategy with technical capability and implementation. I coach software teams to deliver more value, faster and safer, focusing on both management and technical skills. When a team is engaged with vision and mission, and focused on outcomes not output, great things happen. I've managed software teams for the past 8 years, and before that a Software Engineer for another 5 working on critical solutions at scale. I've primarily focused on building and developing teams from early to mid-stage, in my recent role at Alpha, I've been responsible for taking the team from 1 team member to 4 product teams. In that time, I've seen my workload shift from Contributor and Solutions Architect (early stage) to Director. Cross functional alignment is a critical part of the success of product initiatives, and I have experience working with, and across all aspects of product development. I use that knowledge now to help build and foster trust amongst teams and disciplines - the glue of all effective software teams. At my time at Alpha I have led several key initiatives including- SSO OAuth 2 IdP platform in C# and the migration of key web platforms to use this - Helping to shape how Alpha's global multi-tenant platforms can be scaled regionally - Rollout organization-wide Engineering metrics initiative, transforming the way teams are handling personal development and gauging success - Responsible for the migration of Alpha's entire global software platforms into the cloud, including containerization and deployment using IaC
