About Matthew Bunin

Following the completion of my undergraduate studies at Michigan State University in 2005, I began my career in education first as a social studies student teacher with Haslett Public Schools, Michigan. There I worked with students in grade seven and later completed a full year at the high school level with grades nine and eleven. While a student at MSU I was also a U.S. Marine and non-commissioned officer and squad leader with Charlie Company, First Batallion, Twenty-Fourth Marines. My graduate courses at the college of education of MSU were interrupted twice by two deployments to Iraq. Upon completion of my student teaching in April of 2008, I received my teaching certificate in history, Spanish, and English for secondary levels. In July of 2008 I was hired as a Spanish instructor by Clear Creek ISD of Houston, TX to teach grades nine through twelve at Clear Horizons Early College High School. Part of an innovative program initiated by Bill Gates in 2006, the school focuses on providing a rigorous course curriculum for students not normally represented in colleges and universities in the United States. I have taught levels II through IV of my subject, including AP Spanish at this school and have been an active member of its leadership team. In May 2013 I completed my M.A. in History from the University of Houston Clear Lake and began teaching U.S. History with the evening division at San Jacinto College. After moving to Katy just west of Houston, I have begun my first year as Department Chair of Foreign Language for Morton Ranch High School of Katy ISD. I am continuing my work as an adjunct professor for the Honors College of San Jacinto College and also for the History Department of the University of Houston Downtown.
