Jones is a land-use planning and natural resource conservation expert with 13 years of professional project management experience working on community planning and environmental protection matters with federal, state and local agencies. He holds the AICP credential with the American Institute of Certified Planners as well as a Master's degree in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University. The Tufts Master's degree is fully accredited by PAB and was ranked best Planning Master's degree program without a PhD in the United States by Planetizen Press in 2017. Matthew currently serves as Executive Director of Planning and Zoning for Luzerne County (Wilkes-Barre), Pennsylvania. Previously in his career, Matthew served as Transportation Planning Manager with the Lackawanna County Department of Planning and Economic Development. He helped staff the Lackawanna County Regional Planning Commission and the Lackawanna-Luzerne Transportation Study (LLTS) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). He has also served as Land Use Planner with the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission in Harrisburg; Planning Commissioner with the City of Frederick, Maryland; and Senior Land Use Planner & Inspector with the Montgomery County Planning Department, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in Silver Spring. Prior to that, Matthew raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants - and provided member services to state environment directors from across the country - with the Environmental Council of the States in Washington, DC.
