About Matthew Chen

As a Computer Science student at Rochester Institute of Technology, I'm driven by a passion for AI development, particularly in self-supervised and generative models that offer new ways to model our world. I am actively seeking a Summer 2026 Co-op where I can contribute to pioneering innovative technology that empowers others, especially in the medical or research fields. This desire to create a positive impact led me to my role as a Data Science Intern at the Mayo Clinic. I had the opportunity to work on diagnostic and prognostic challenges in computational pathology, where I designed a library to process terabytes of microscopy images, trained a novel self-supervised CNN model for clinical-grade cell quantification, and refactored an image registration pipeline to increase its accuracy by 20%. Leading full-stack projects like the COMS Console has honed my ability to balance ambitious vision with pragmatic execution. I now focus on managing feature creep by prioritizing a robust, foundational architecture that ensures long-term stability and enables future innovation. My goal of using technology to empower people is a common thread in all my activities. As Hackathon Chair for the Computing Organization for Multicultural Students, I organized an event to help over 130 attendees build their skills and projects. I've also had the privilege of launching a STEM program for underserved communities with City Year Los Angeles and guiding my peers on hobby projects at the RIT Makerspace. I am eager to bring my technical skills and collaborative spirit to a challenging role. Let's connect!
