The opinions and statements expressed here are my own and do not represent official policy of the FDIC. As a commissioned examiner with the FDIC I led or participated on examinations of banks and technology service providers, assessing the financial condition and soundness of operational controls and risk assessments, ensuring confidentiality of customer information, integrity of transactions on customer accounts, and continued availability of banking services to the public. Examination teams can range from two to a dozen individuals. As an IT Examination Specialist, I provide subject matter expertise for examiners across an 8 state region, reviewing and validating findings from the field, providing liaison services to other regulatory agencies, guiding the oversight of our multi-state examination program, and developing and educating our examination staff.
