Background
About Matthew Creek
Electrical Fitter - I began my career in the electrical industry in 2010 as an electrical fitter apprentice. On completion of my apprenticeship in 2013 I was awarded a position as a Protection and Control Technician. These hands-on roles offered me a practical understanding of the physical application of a network and the fundamental principles that underpin energy distribution, electrical theory, and network operations. Quality of Supply and Metering - In 2017 I began my professional progression in the role of Technical Officer Metering and Quality of Supply at Evoenergy where I was ultimately offered a position. Within this role I began my learnings for asset management through the management and coordinated testing of Evoenergy’s type 5 & 6 revenue meters. Within this role I saw first-hand many of the current and emerging issues facing Australia’s electrical networks through the management of the quality of supply and regulatory compliance reporting. Zones and Secondary Systems Engineering - In 2018 I was offered the role of Automation Systems Senior Technical Officer where I have developed a deeper understanding of network operations, modern technologies for network efficiencies, reliability benefits, and network primary and secondary design. The core focus of this role saw me developed the framework for Evoenergy’s transition to digital substations. This role evolved into the role of Senior Automation Systems Engineer, in which my focus on asset management and engineering analysis deepened. Over these years I acted in the position of Principal Automation Systems Engineer, in which I was responsible for leading a technical team of 6, leading automation focussed projects, the management of Evoenergy’s SCADA and automation portfolio, and for handling large and innovative embedded generation connections. Ground Assets Manager – in 2024 I moved into a leadership role leading a team of engineering staff, design staff, and delivery teams responsible for the asset management of Evoenergy’s on and underground distribution assets, as well as the delivery of maintenance and replacement programs for the ground network, zone substations, protections, and secondary systems. This has given me valuable skills in leadership, knowledge and experience in asset management, the ability to make changes in the way works are performed, and has given me the opportunity to build Evoenergy and its people.
