About Matthew Davis

During my graduate career, I was responsible for selecting and implementing methodolgy for the preparation, purification, and characterization of a range of substrates via a variety of common analytical methods. Working both in collaboration with another researcher and independently, I expanded the scope of the Rh(I)-catalyzed cyclocarbonylation reaction. I was subsequently responsible for preparing my results for publication. Additionally during the final two years of my graduate career, it was my responsibility to carry out chemical waste disposal and address all issues relating to compliance with health and safety guidelines set by University of Pittsburgh’s Environmental Health and Safety department for my laboratory. While I am currently am currently engaged in the instruction of students. My long term goal is to find a challenging position in the food, chemical, or pharmaceutical industry that takes advantage of my extensive laboratory experience and the skills I acquired why earning my degrees. Specialties: • Expertise in small scale to multi-gram, multi-step organic synthesis. • Practiced in common analytical techniques: HPLC, GC, LCMS, MS, TLC, NMR, IR. • Experienced in common purification techniques: HPLC, flash chromatography, distillation, and recrystallization. • Excellent in handling of air and moisture sensitive reactions. • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, SciFinder Scholar, ChemDraw, ISI Web of Knowledge, and CAChe.
