About Matthew Desantis

Over the course of my life I have had two passions: education and horse racing. I have been fortunate to pursue both over the last 17 years. My passion for student success and continuous improvement has driven my career in higher education. As a faculty member and institutional effectiveness leader I have worked on student success and learning initiatives at various institutions while engaging faculty, staff, and leadership with an equity-minded approach. From teaching political science to leading multi-university processes, I have had 17 wonderfully fulfilling years working at the University of Texas at El Paso, High Point University, Guilford Technical Community College, Florida Southern College, St. Edward's University, George Mason University, and Central Carolina Community College. My other life's passion has been the sport of horse racing. Starting in 2021 I created, produced, and promoted various YouTube programming and podcasts on horse racing from previewing upcoming races to interviewing industry leaders to handicapping races to provide wagering insight. My handicapping analysis has been featured in the New York Post, OddsCheckerUS, the Sports Gambling Podcast Network, StableDuel, and more. In 2023, I accepted a full-time position as content producer at NYRA Bets where I able to promote the sport by handicapping races taking place across the country and across the world while providing valuable resources to new and experienced players. My passion for horse racing and education have blended together in this position as I have been able to work to educate newcomers to the sport to ensure they have a positive and profitable experience at the track.
