About Matthew Dishman

Since graduating with a 2.1 honours degree in Mathematics in 2010, I have been working within three departments at BRS. I began as an FFA broker and enjoyed the fast paced and competitive environment. The FFA desk reduced in size so I was entrusted to lead, train and develop the department. However, I saw my future on the physical and after three years I made the move to become a dry cargo operator. The role included drafting up Charter parties, invoicing and chasing debtors. I took on the task of training new team members and after three years my leadership qualities along with my other attributes were recognised and rewarded as I became Head of London operations. After five years on operations, I wanted to challenge myself further and put my experience and knowledge into good use by becoming a Panamax broker. I was hungry, driven, energetic, pushing myself to learn more and create business. I began by producing fresh cargoes + tonnage lists, writing reports and given limited number of accounts. It was unquestionable that my effort levels were exceptionally high, therefore I was rewarded with more clients and in my first full year I clean fixed 20 times. In April 2020, I was called back to operations as our most senior member had long Covid and they were in desperate need of my help. I arrived back with the increased skill of understanding even more what our broker colleagues required, along with greater knowledge of recaps, CPs, technical and overall shipping knowledge.
