About Matthew Ecklund
An Artist, a Sailor, & a Teacher. I am a passionate educator with twelve years’ experience teaching Outdoor Experiential Education to diverse populations of students from 3rd graders to adults, and a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master Mariner. Drawing from years of experience sailing the world's oceans, I create original works of art centered on the sea. The swells of the ocean also mimic the ebb and flow of energy people experience ashore, so I utilize nautical metaphors to dive into conversations about mental health, mindfulness, and meditation. I am the founder of a men’s meditation circle that meets weekly, and I am a certified Mindful Schools Educator. I draw on my background and degree in Studio Art to create original works, art commissions, paintings, writings, and designs inspired by my interest in the Ocean and the Mind. Co-Managing one of Minnesota’s only 35mm Film One-Hour Photo Labs, I assist customers in creative endeavors to preserve memories and history in print.
