About Matthew Ferguson

Through my work during my Undergraduate and Masters degrees and several analytic writing jobs, I have obtained significant skills which allow me to research and engage in a variety of topics concerning Canadian bilateral and multilateral relationships, including foreign policy, trade, and development. These skills include multiple research skills, the ability to perform strong qualitative analysis, and a knowledge expertise on Russia, Eastern European, and Central Asian foreign policy and international relations. The majority of my studies have focused on Russia and the post-Soviet states and how they constructed their foreign policy and international relations after the fall of the Soviet Union. Because of this, I am very interested in working somewhere that handles relations with these countries whether bilaterally or internationally, as well as for independent companies which provide advice, consultation, or research on related topics. Apart from studying international relations, I have managed two gaming companies which aimed to promote and provide community-based gaming experiences for people in Ottawa. My passion for gaming extends into academia, as I want to work on developing the emerging new discipline "Game Studies" which aims to look at the narratives and themes behind games, and how gamers interact with them. Developed in part from how film and literature are studied in university, Game Studies tackles the additional issue of immersion within the narrative, which is not reached in the same way through other mediums.
