About Matthew Funston

I have 15 years experience in the real estate industry, across residential property management, real estate development, and multi-family marketing in the Washington, DC, Denver, and Richmond, VA metro areas. I graduated from American University's Kogod School of Business with a Masters in Real Estate, Finance concentration, in May 2014. My bachelors degree is in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia School of Architecture. I began my real estate work as a leasing consultant at a luxury high-rise residential property in Silver Spring, MD. I then moved to the corporate office and transitioned to a Development Associate position, working on various projects in our development pipeline, and also some already under construction. In 2014 I returned to property management and gained extensive experience in resident retention, attracting prospective residents, fair housing, and solving complex resident concerns and property management issues such as life safety and maintenance emergencies. I worked with many types of property owners including 3rd party fee management. I also have extensive experience working with corporate housing partners. My Development experience includes project management and understanding real estate design trends. In 2021 I moved to Richmond, VA and began working with CoStar Group as a sales rep with Apartments.com, consistently exceeding goals and growing relationships with our amazing multi-family clients. I was promoted to Sales Coach after a year and love working with our new hires as they launch they sales careers!
