My dissertation utilized whole exome sequencing of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma tumors to identify genetic alterations that I assessed with a variety of functional assays in order to learn about the molecular underpinnings of this disease and identify potential therapeutic targets. My thesis authorship and co-authorship credits include original research reports published in Head & Neck, Cancer Discovery, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the Journal of Experimental Medicine; a textbook chapter in the 4th edition of The Molecular Basis of Cancer, published by Elsevier; and a digital case and question set for the CME accredited Virtual ENT Biopsy Pathology Exam by the College of American Pathologists. I gave 5 invited talks and 11 posters on my research at various local, regional, and national conferences during my PhD training. I received a poster award from the dept of pharmacology, travel/scholar-in-training/speaking honoraria from the U-Pitt BGSA, the AACR, the ASCI/AAP, the PHNP, and the NHGRI.
