About Matthew Hoffman

Full-time faculty in the School of Business and Technology at Florida SouthWestern State College. I teach both paralegal studies and business. I have taught 17 different courses and over the course of fall, spring, and summer semesters, I usually teach approximately 10 different courses: litigation, torts, real estate, introduction to paralegal studies, legal research and writing I and II, constitutional law, introduction to business, employment law, and foundations of international business. I teach in multiple different modalities, ground, blend, live online, and asynchronous online. I serve on multiple committees and am a member of the executive committee of faculty senate. I created 10 courses in Canvas from scratch including several which purely use Open Education Resources instead of textbooks. I am admitted to the bar in Florida, Minnesota, Middle District of Florida, U.S. District of Minnesota, US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and am Veterans Accredited. In my law practice I have handled over 800 administrative hearings, drafted over 200 appeals including to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Florida District Courts of Appeal. I was a featured presenter at the NOSSCR Conference in Seattle in 2012, and the AAJ Conference in New Orleans in 2013. Most of my experience is in administrative law including Social Security and immigration. However, I have experience in personal injury and commercial litigation, I have a background as well in prosecuting complex ("white collar") crimes and have worked with several receivership operations, one involving a potential pyramid scheme involving web users in China, and an operation to recover over $100 million from defrauded investors from a fraudulent investment company. I have conducted hearings in over 10 states as well as Puerto Rico. In my limited free time, I spend time with my family of my wife, 4 children, and 4 pets. I enjoy traveling and have been to nearly 70 countries and all 50 states.
