Hello, my name is Matthew Kalinowski. I’ve been living in Norwich for two years and in the New London area for 8 years. As a Machinist Mate in the United States Navy. A family man with two girls, I am currently a QA inspector at the Naval Submarine Support Facility Groton who will soon be transitioning out of the Navy and entering the civilian workforce. I am interested in furthering my education and finding a job in the New London area. After enlisting in July of 2010, I attended basic training followed by Naval Submarine school graduating in August 2011. Assigned to the USS San Juan, I made two overseas deployments, 4 major engineering overhauls including 2 dry dock availabilities. As an Auxiliary Machinist Mate (Mechanic), my responsibilities included operating and performing maintenance on various systems including, hydraulics, pneumatics, high pressure and low-pressure air, atmosphere purification, oxygen generation, refrigeration, diesel generators, fresh water and sea water cooling, habitability and waste management. I also performed key parts of ship’s operations including ship’s control and log taker. After 5 1/2 years on the USS San Juan, I was assigned to the naval submarine support facility where I qualified as: a quality assurance inspector, work center supervisor, steam plant clean inspector and oxygen clean inspector. My responsibilities included inspecting and supervising the rebuild and retest of submarine critical components, conduct audits of quality assurance paper work and surveillance of maintenance. I am currently the training program supervisor in charge of planning, assigning and documenting training. After finding discrepancies in the Command Training Instruction along with several compliance issues, I performed revisions resulting in a Command Training Instruction in compliance with Navy instructions with no discrepancies found after a Repair Department inspection.
