About Matthew Keen

Matt has practiced energy regulatory and environmental law exclusively since 2006, and is recognized as a leading lawyer in multiple related domains by Chambers, Lexpert, the Legal 500, and Best Lawyers in Canada. He has significant experience with energy projects, and advises on issues concerning economic and financial regulation, facilities applications and project approvals, transactions, environmental compliance, climate change, and the rights of Indigenous peoples. This includes regular appearances before energy regulatory tribunals and the courts, and dealing with government agencies, environmental assessment, compliance and defence processes. Matt has significant experience with tolls and tariff proceedings concerning electricity and pipelines, in both British Columbia and Alberta. He also has extensive experience with major facility applications, including pipelines and powerlines, upstream oil and gas facilities and LNG infrastructure. Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright Vancouver in 2011 (then Bull Housser), Matt practiced at a prominent national law firm in Calgary for five years, and clerked at the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench as part of his articles. Matt also briefly worked for a large oil and gas producer before law school and holds an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree.
