About Matthew Koehler

Spinning my wheels keeps me happy. And, no, that doesn't mean what you think it means. Exactly the opposite. I ride bikes; have for the past 38 years. Presently, most of my riding takes place on the bike trails and roads of Sonoma County, but my past includes plenty of BMX and mountain bike riding as well. I use this passion of mine not only to get my fitness in, but also to commute to and from work. I work as a Wine & Cellar Planner for Delicato Family Wines at Francis Ford Coppola Winery, where I organize the winery workflow in such a way that sees the winemakers goals fulfilled while making sure the cellar is completing those goals in the most efficient way possible, all while assuring daily wine bottling targets are achieved. Communication between all departments is key, and my duties as a Wine & Cellar Planner are an integral part of that balance. I enjoy figuring out solutions to problems, then watching those problems fade away after integrating some great ideas. It's a good day when you look back on an old procedure, or lack of one, and say to yourself."How did we ever make things work back then?" My job is important, and I enjoy it, but under the surface things get a little more interesting. In addition to being a cyclist, I'm a husband, father-of-daughters, booze maker, author, photographer, home chef, citrus fanatic, coffee addict, west-coast beach lover, avid reader and overly exuberant storyteller with a weakness for all things Disney (I mean, I did meet my wife in Disneyland, so there's that!). I kept out of trouble in my younger years serving in the United States Marine Corps, working as a firefighter/EMT, getting valuable hands-on experience working in a bike shop, and, attempting to satisfy my never-ending curiosity, somehow found the time to earn a Juris Doctorate degree, a BA in History, all while tacking on a minor in Chemistry as a bonus. And I'm still going. Keep rollin' friends!
