About Matthew Lambert

I completed my 25th year of employment at Jefferson Community College and retired in September of 2016. My positions were Transfer Counselor/Academic Advisor/Title Retention Specialist, in addition to adjunct teaching (3-credit academic skills development course). I served as the President of the Jefferson-Lewis Association of Counseling & Development from 2014-1016 and as Vice-President from 2012-2014. I was born and raised in Haslett, Michigan, just outside of East Lansing, Michigan. Our family then moved to College Park, Maryland for two years, and then settled in the Albany, NY area. I earned degrees at HVCC (1979), SUNY Cortland (1982) and Alfred University (1983). Upon completing my graduate degree from Alfred University, I took a job at MacMurray College (Illinois) as a Residence Hall Director, and the Assistant Director of Student Activities. After two years at MacMurray (1983-85), I moved to Austin, Texas and was employed as a Special Event Planner for the City of Austin's Park and Recreation Department. After a year in Austin, I returned to Jacksonville, IL and accepted a position as the Physical Education Director at the YMCA. The next position I served in was the Director of Campus Activities at the George Youth Treatment Program in Dryden, NY.(1987-89) I went on to spend two years in Syracuse working with at-risk youth for Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army Youth Services.(1990-1992) In 1992, I accepted a Counselor position with Jefferson Community College, and was there until my Fall 2016 retirement. I continued on as an Adjunct Instructor through the Spring 2017 semester. I am an avid bicyclist and kayaker, and play volleyball, tennis, and basketball on a regular basis. I love almost all genres of music (yes, even rap and country), play guitar with vocals (zero Grammy potential), collect sports cards and memorabilia, and love capturing the world through digital photography.
