About Matthew Mawson

With a robust background in mining and exploration, I have extensive experience in both IOA open-pit and underground operations, as well as lode gold environments. My expertise spans orogenic gold, VMS, and magmatic sulphide deposits, and I have successfully conducted placer gold project appraisals and oil and gas appraisal drilling. This has honed my skills in hard rock mining and metal discovery. Currently, I specialise in geotechnical geology for hard rock underground SLC mines, focusing on geo-data coordination and geo-modelling to enhance orebody knowledge. As a proactive member of various working groups, I aim to add value at every project stage, consistently meeting deadlines and elevating my skill set. My strengths include implementation, team building, and effective communication. My career is built on solid operational and field experience, having led and executed geotechnical logging, drilling campaigns (geotechnical, resource, brownfield), and regional greenfield campaigns. These include prospecting, geochemical sampling, mapping, geophysical surveys, and target generation. I am a Chartered Geologist (C.Geo) with the Geological Society of London, hold a Masters by Research from Trinity College Dublin specializing in cobalt, and am an alumnus of the University of Edinburgh. My technical toolkit includes proficiency in Leapfrog Geo & Edge, AcQuire, Imago, ioGAS, IMDEX, Mapinfo, ArcGIS, Datashed, and LogChief.
