About Matthew Pare

As a high school student the subject of Chemistry failed to pique my interest. I was heavily focused on obtaining a degree in Biology to further my pursuit of a medical degree. As my first year of higher education advanced, I was captivated by the precision and of the chemical world. As a highly organized and mathematically oriented mind, this appealed to me and I decided to pursue a career as a biochemist to follow both passions. During my second year, I was asked to assist in the teaching of General Chemistry labs. There, I was asked to prepare the materials for the lab experiment, supervise and ensure students adhere to safety standards, and on one occasion, give the lab briefing to the students. Through this teaching experience, I learned two important lessons. The first, safety in the context of chemistry related experiments is of utmost importance and should never be overlooked. The other lesson, I love the meticulousness that the chemistry laboratory offers and the incredible precision that it requires. For this reason I am pursuing a career in Biochemical research.
