About Matthew Phipps

Personal Interests I have always had a personal interest in mechanics. As a kid, I grew up on a farm helping my dad fix tractors and work in the shop; I developed an interest in how everything around me worked. I was able to do my own work on my pickup and my motorbike, furthering my curiosity and knowledge about mechanics. When deciding on a career path my past experience and current curiosity pushed me toward IHET. Past Work Experience We did almost all of our own mechanical work on our family farm. We would do things such as complete fabrications for a piece of equipment, and we would also rebuild or repair mechanical components. Also, I have experience operating these pieces of equipment, so I have become quite adept with troubleshooting and test driving to discover equipment failures. Future Career Goals Once I leave NAIT, I would like to get a job in the Lloydminster, AB area; however if there are not jobs there, I would be willing to get a job in Edmonton or Calgary. I would like to start out working for a large company with a steady amount of work. In the next five years, I would like to have my diploma and my Class 1 license, in hopes that I would be a strong asset to a work team with these qualifications. In ten years, I would like to be back in the Lloydminster area working for a company of any size, possibly working my way up to a supervisor position.
