About Matthew Phipps

I am a well rounded electrician and self motivated person with a take charge personality. I am always looking for the next growth opportunity for both my personal and professional life. I take great personal satisfaction in my career and I thrive in positions requiring self motivation and personal accountability.My electrical career began in Ohio at a small residential company in 1997. When the owner decided to retire in I opened Phipps Electric LLC. After 7 years of residential and light commercial contracting I found myself a single father of 3 and in the middle of a historic economic housing downturn. I took my Electrical License to a lighting distributor who was wanting to start a lighting maintenance division but needed an experienced electrician to head up the division. I spent 5 years at Leveck Lighting as their lead lighting maintenance technician. In 2013 an opportunity to advance my career into the Industrial Electric field presented itself in Wyoming. I relocated and began working at Cloud Peak Energy (now Navajo Transitional Energy Company) where I remain. I started at Cloud Peak as a pit electrician but quickly moved into the plant where I discovered my love of PLC control systems. I spent 5 years in the plant soaking up as much knowledge as possible while expanding my knowledge of PLC during my personal time. I advanced into the position of Industrial Control Systems Technician in 2019. Since moving into the ICST position I have been able to polish my training and expand my knowledge in the areas of: installing/repairing fiber optic, ethernet, DH+ networks, programming/troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems, ABB and Seimens VFDs. My PLC experience includes but is not limited to: Migrologix 1100, Control Logix SLC 500, PLC 5, Flex I/O, Factory Talk ME, SE, and Panelview 800.
