Background

About Matthew Pietrosanu

Data, data everywhere. Researchers in all fields, whether working with data big or small, understand the gap between hypothesis and practical statistical methodology, between data and data-driven inference, and between raw output and effectively communicated results. As a statistical research consultant, my goal is to help researchers, students, and industry professionals bridge these gaps. I bring to the table - a solid technical background in statistics and machine learning- award-winning statistical consulting skills and experience managing a university consulting centre- technical proficiency with numerous coding languages and statistical software- a history of collaboration across many fields-public health, nursing, psychology, linguistics, finance, agriculture, dentistry, and beyond; and - substantial experience copy editing highly technical scientific work and guiding researchers on how improve the clarity of their writing. I believe that departments share a responsibility in developing the statistical proficiency of their students and trainees. I am interested in working with academic units to create and develop consulting centres that provide experiential learning opportunities to students, improve clients' research output, and are financially sustainable in the long term. My graduate research focuses on hierarchical Bayesian models, computational methods for tensor-valued data, robust regression, and applications to neuroimaging data analysis. My previous work has explored topological data analysis for facial shape analysis and soft-tissue modelling.
