About Matthew Pitcher
Hi! My name is Matthew Pitcher, and I am an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying political science and history. I founded the Edison High School Peace Garden, the first entirely student-led green space at a Central Valley high school. Designed with drought-resistant plants to suit the Central Valley’s landscape, the garden also aims to spotlight the historically redlined community of West Fresno and the resources and opportunities it has to offer. While at Cal, I hope to join numerous organizations where I can continue to grow and hone my skills in the fields I love—public policy and political science—while also building strengths in other areas. I strive to return to my hometown of Fresno, California, to serve as a public defender with the county of Fresno, and eventually run for office to address critical issues affecting the city: homelessness, accessible and affordable housing, the need for substantive green spaces, and improvements to quality public transportation.
