Matthew Ramsay, M.Sc, RPBio, has a strong interdisciplinary background in restoration ecology, applied plant ecology, wetland ecology, and environmental land use planning. He has extensive training and experience in ecosystem restoration project planning, ecological monitoring, and native plant horticulture. He has provided detailed designs and specifications, construction guidance, and post-construction performance monitoring for ecological restoration projects in a wide variety of habitat types including: in-stream fish habitat, freshwater marsh, estuarine salt marsh, vernal pools, subalpine meadow, riparian forest, oak woodlands, a former urban landfill, and former quarries. Matthew has over 25 years of experience working in various capacities within the field of environmental services in both the United States and Canada, where he has provided technical leadership within the vegetation, wetlands and ecosystem restoration disciplines. From 2014-2017 he served as the Stantec's Regional Technical Leader for the Vegetation and Wetlands discipline in British Columbia, and from 2017-2021 he served as Stantec’s National Technical Leader for Ecosystem Restoration services in Canada in these capacities he was responsible for technical quality management, innovation of methods/approaches, and professional development of team members. His project experience ranges in scale from environmental services associated with single-lot developments, to a watershed management plan for a resource conservation district, to a square-Km ecological constraints analysis for a transmission line feasibility (opportunities and constraints) study, and baseline studies & management plans for a 1,400 square Km linear infrastructure project. The settings of his project experience have ranged from urban brownfield redevelopments to work within National Parks and remote wildlands.
