About Matthew Richards

I have an insatiable curiosity for the sciences. If I see a new product or prototype and don't instantly understand most of the theory behind it, I can't sit still until I do. While this didn't work out so well for the family VCR, it has helped me develop a knack for understanding and debugging systems, as well as an inventive and unusual point of view. I'm the sort that is full of ideas, and understands that many of them will not work. My interest in form and function applies to all aspects of design, whether it is mechanical, software, or part of the user experience. Please don't ask me to design a GUI, though. My professional interests are heavily influenced by my passion for automation, in the broadest sense; I love robots, video game AI, and algorithms. My weakest traits are my ability to focus on a low priority tasks, and my lack interest in my career development and portfolio (I'm more interested in doing interesting things than bragging about them after). The people around me and my work are always my highest priorities, so I try very hard to get along with everyone while making sure my own responsibilities are met. I enjoy working comfortably; I am of course referring to my khaki and t-shirt lifestyle. This is, of course, negotiable. I enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge, and as such I enjoy teaching and consulting on projects. I have enjoyed being a project coordinator in the past, and I am interested in expanding my leadership experience in the future. However, I do still enjoy working on my own tasks, and prefer to have aggressive schedules on high priority tasks.
