About Matthew Robertson

I have spent the past 20 years in academic and professional pursuit of combining my love for design and the perfect implementation of the built form. My early professional career was spent refining my knowledge of horticulture, residential landscape design and construction management. Shortly thereafter, I accepted a position as a land planner in a small civil engineering, surveying and planning firm. I followed this path for the next six years during which time I developed a strong background in the legal and engineering principles that guide decisions in the land development process. Having developed close relationships with many of my clients and proven the value of thoughtful design in the engineering process, I was poised to accept a position working full-time for my largest customer. While at OakCrest Builders, I gained valuable experience working as the Director of Estimating and Purchasing. After hiring and training my replacement there, I transitioned full-time into the new position of Director of Land Development for OakCrest Builders. After twelve months as the Director, I was named President of OakCrest Land Development Company. While President, I was responsible for developing annual business plans, consulting with sister companies about new product lines, hiring a new production manager, staff accountant and a new director of marketing. My land development responsibilities included feasibility studies, financial pro forma, contract negotiation, entitlement, design, construction management and sales. I co-founded The Stratford Companies, Inc. in 2005 in an effort to combine all of the best lessons, passions and ideas of the previous 20 years and create a new kind of company that is well-versed in many different aspects of design and construction. I strive to maintain a learning organization and have a strong desire to collaborate with individuals and companies in the pursuit of the implementation of great design.
