About Matthew Romesberg

Ever since I was young, mechanical engineering has been my passion. I can still remember back in middle school the thrill I experienced when I joined my first robotics team. I designed tons of different robots using the Lego Mindstorm Ev2s to complete various tasks and challenges. Being able to take a small variety of lego pieces and quickly constructing and designing hundreds of different robot prototypes was absolutely amazing to me. The only limits to what I could create were my imagination and supplies. This drive to build and design led me to what to join a more complex robotics team in high school to continue to grow in my knowledge of engineering. Through an invitation from a close friend, I quickly joined the First Tech Challenge Robotics Team #8645, The Robotic Doges. Here, I was able to gain first hand experience working on more advanced robots made of metal instead of Legos. For three years, I worked alongside a build team that extensively designed and built a variety of mechanisms such as chassis and lift systems for three unique robots. My experiences on these two robotics teams confirmed that my passion is in the mechanical engineering field and that my next step was to get a college education. I was a student at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College in the field of mechanical engineering. Here, I learned to utilize the vast resources and expert teaching to develop my core knowledge in the important aspects of the field of mechanical engineering. I had studied many key subjects in the fields of Thermodynamics, Machine Dynamics, Strengths of Materials, and Fluid Flow. Also, I had acquired technical skills with the computer software programs Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, Mathcad, and Excel.Now I am currently working at HF Lenz in the higher education department as a level II mechanical engineer designing HVAC systems for schools and colleges. I hope to continue to grow as an engineer and eventually start up my own 3D printing business where I can make items to help people.
