About Matthew Rooney

With over 4 years of experience in the assay development industry, I am currently the Senior Scientist for Assay Development at Fleet Bioprocessing. My role involves developing immunoassays against new targets and optimising/ troubleshooting existing customer assays. I have hands-on experience with a variety of assay formats including high-throughput platforms and have experience with a range of antibody types. I am responsible for proof-of-concept, development, verification reporting, and assay transfer. All work is carried out in an ISO 9001 & 13485 compliant environment and with a GMP compliant with the US FDA quality standards. My role is customer facing and I am regularly in contact with clients answering questions, presenting data, and providing updates for the company website. Previously I worked for Axis-Shield (Alere) developing high-throughput immunoassays on behalf of Siemens Healthcare. I received my PhD in Immunology (BBSRC iCase) from the University of Surrey, where I worked on formulating and developing nanoparticle-based, redox modulating vaccine adjuvants. Prior to this I studied at the University of Aberdeen where I completed my M.Sci.(Hons) in Biotechnology. I have a strong track record of collaborating with industrial sponsors to develop products used in antibody production and medical diagnostics, including point-of-care testing.
