Background
About Matthew Sain
I am a former nuclear machinist mate from the United States Navy. I have extensive experience performing and supervising corrective and preventative maintenance on various equipment of primary and secondary nuclear plant systems including but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, bearings, high pressure air compressors, steam driven propulsion turbines, turbine generators, R-114 refrigeration plants, various types of heat exchangers and reactor coolant piping and valves. As a senior mechanic in machinary division, I have experience writing various nuclear level QA work packages and procedures. I have proven experience and success scheduling and planning team projects involving coordinating between several military divisions, DoD civilians and contractors. I have supervised major evolutions that have high visibility within demanding environments requiring firm deadlines, to include a oil load while in a navy harbor, major heat exchanger repairs and testing, emergent repairs to the high pressure air dryer, and many other evolutions requiring high levels of supervision. My leadership and effective communication skills have aided me to qualify Engine Room Supervisor within one year of operational nuclear experience. I also have qualified Shutdown Roving Watch to monitor shutdown characteristics throughout the entire engine room as the only mechanic in the engine room. I was recently rewarded with an Admiral's letter during the 2014 Western Pacific deployment for outstanding watch standing and for high performance as a drill team member. As a Engine Room Supervisor in Machinery Division, I scheduled and coordinated continual training involving reactor theory, applied engineering principles, ethical watch standing principles, and complex casualty analysis. Along with training, I assisted the Engineering Department Master Chief and Engineering Department Training Assistant in submitting questions for the monthly examinations and engineering qualification examinations
