About Matthew Scott

I'm a specialist in emergent asset classes and novel investment strategy ideas. My major focus currently is the "Resource Code", a thematic title I originated, which takes a holistic view of resources including minerals and the biosphere in the context of the resource transition. As part of that I have become interested in metals and mining, agriculture, timberland, and the future of food (inc becoming a vertical farming geek!). Other areas I'm also involved in are cryptocurrency, gold, ETFs, downside protection and healthcare investing. In general I'm interested in innovation, both in the context of portfolios and in the wider economy. Specifically I work in Mercer's Global Strategic Research Team, which has responsibility for setting Mercer's reference portfolios and integrating our best ideas in a portfolio context. My day to day work involves drafting and reviewing white papers, and looking for ways to develop new products and solutions. Prior to working in strategic research I was an investment consultant to UK institutional investors for a decade.
