About Matthew Scurlock
My current role as a postdoctoral researcher is focussed on investigating virulence mechanisms of human and bovine tuberculosis to ultimately inform novel treatment strategies. During my PhD, I developed a bioinformatic method that rapidly predicts complex bacterial signalling networks, therefore saving time, money and labour that would otherwise be spent on their discovery. The predictive method was validated through biochemical characterisation of purified recombinant protein and profiling of Burkholderia pseudomallei deletion mutants. An industrial placement at OMass Therapeutics has given me valuable experience in drug development and biotechnology.
