About Matthew Singer

I am a broadly trained biologists with expertise in ecology, evolutionary biology, and animal behavior. My PhD research looked at behavioral adaptation to captivity along the bold-shy continuum in zebrafish (Danio rerio). I've found that the bold-shy continuum is a multivariate suite of behaviors that are heritable and share genetic correlations. Evolution along the bold-shy continuum is likely driven by predation (or lack of) in the environment, and that environmental conditions such as structural complexity can modulate these behaviors in a captive environment. I am also an educator at heart. I have seven years experience teaching in a college setting, and six years experience teaching in an informal and outreach setting as an environmental educator. I am looking to broaden my scope and use my skills and experience to help solve real world problems, whether it is addressing equity and diversity in education or the workplace, or helping to produce better products and services that enrich people's lives and grow communities. I am always curious and ready to expand my knowledge and learn new skills. I learn quickly and independently, and my enthusiasm follows me with every project I take on. Life is an adventure, and I can't wait to see what lies around the corner.
