About Matthew Slarve
My research experience has primarily been in development of immunotherapeutics to treat microbial infection (bacteria and fungi). I am currently a PhD student in the Spellberg/Luna lab at USC, where I am developing a monoclonal antibody cocktail for treating XDR Acinetobacter baumanii infections. This work has been published three times thus far (PMID: 28931235, PMID: 34036366, and PMID: 34310884) As a masters student in Dr. Jill Adler-Moore's lab at Cal Poly Pomona (2014-2017), my primary responsibility was testing/development of a novel vaccine for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. We published on this work in 2022 (PMID: 35680499). In Dr. Adler's lab, I also developed an in vitro model for evaluating antifungal drug efficacy in a fungal/bacterial coinfection of the alveoli, where bacterial biofilms may impede aerosolized delivery of antifungals. Additionally, I aided in experiments evaluating antifungal pharmacokinetics in obese and diabetic models and, worked as a contracted researcher with Molecular Express Inc. to test novel antimicrobial products.
