About Matthew Stevens

As a youth, I was always curious about the world. I would eagerly seek out information about topics that sparked my interest and were of importance to me. One subject I always wanted to learn about that my parents or the public school system could not provide for me was business. This led to my life-long quest for self-education and contemplative inquiry on the subject. After completing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Economics, I decided I wanted some international exposure, so I went to Japan to teach English for a year. Upon returning to the US, I faced a tough job market and economy as the Great Recession began at the end of 2007. I'm grateful to have eventually found an opportunity with a boutique accounting firm in my hometown of Long Beach, CA. It was here that I honed my skills of working with entrepreneurs and learned how to structure different business models. Eventually, it came time for me to go out on a limb and start my own business. In the fall of 2010, Equilibrium Accounting was born. During my tenure with Equilibrium, I • Grew the customer base by 225%, • Consistently increased gross revenue every year, • Saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in back income taxes, • Helped small businesses find the correct corporate structure and • Created employment opportunities for full-time and seasonal staff. My yearning for knowledge didn’t stop there. I wanted to increase my knowledge and expand my skill set, so I ended up going back to school to get an MBA. I am currently running my own tax practice in Bangkok, Thailand to help the US expat community in Thailand minimize their US income tax liability while residing and working overseas.
