Baseball is an exceptionally unique sport – each team is made up of individuals that, for the team to be successful, must successfully perform their own individual task. This could never be more relevant to how successful business is conducted. Each team member is slated with their own unique position which comes with its required responsibilities – similarly to any job. When a play is performed properly, the team reaps the rewards of victory, when a play is underperformed the whole team adheres to the consequences – everyone has a role. Having had the opportunity and privilege to play elite baseball at the College, National and International levels for the greater part of my life – I am no stranger what lengths must be taken to achieve success both as a team and an individual. My career path was not always clear; having originally gone the route of studying Chiropractic before embarking into the construction field. Growing up with a family well-routed in the industry and trades, my fond memories as a child include those of my father teaching me his trade and having me tag along to construction sites and projects that he was working on. I learnt through observation, the gratification of physically seeing your hard work make an impact – changing skylines and contributing to the necessities in everyday life of mankind, but also the sacrifices that are taken through late hours and long travels. Being a young individual, relatively speaking, in an older age and higher experienced field of work, I rely on my hard work, discipline and team mentality instilled from my athletic background to innovate and initiate new means of how work is performed in an ever-changing industry. I thrive under high pressure scenarios with tight timelines and believe that you truly get out what you put in. Working a company is like pitching in the bottom of the 9th, with a 3-2 count and bases loaded, being up by 1 – as an individual on a 9-player lineup, your contribution affects the entire team result either positively or negatively.
