About Matthew Thomas Walker

Matthew is multi-award winning director, creator and educator born and raised in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. Throughout his career, Matthew has prioritised creating and producing theatre that challenges preconceptions of where, how, and for who theatre is created. He is Co-Artistic Director for Litmus Theatre, a multi-award winning independent theatre company based in Tkaronto/Toronto, and has also recently co-founded Escaping Light Theatre, a Nova-Scotia based site-specific theatre company that is interested in interrogating questions of access through staging multi-disciplinary projects in non-traditional theatre venues. Matthew is also passionate about educating the next generation of theatre artists. He is Acting Program Faculty at Dalhousie’s Fountain School of Performing Arts where he has been instrumental in integrating devised theatre into the school’s curriculum and production season. Matthew has taught, directed, and sat on panels for various educational institutions and theatre organisations throughout Canada. He is a graduate of Dalhousie’s Acting Program (BA with Hons.) and York University (MFA in Theatre Performance).
