About Matthew Turnock

Dr. Matthew Turnock is a Consultant Anesthesiologist at Royal Columbian Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. His work spans clinical care, medical education, and research, with a focus on anesthesia in extreme and austere environments, including microgravity, aeromedical transport, and underwater analogs.He completed his MD at the University of Toronto, with graduate studies examining the use of patient simulation in austere environments, followed by fellowship training in Prehospital Medicine and Aeromedical Transport. He is actively involved in resident teaching, simulation-based education, and collaborative research aimed at improving patient safety and perioperative decision-making.Dr. Turnock volunteers as an Advanced Medical Provider with North Shore Rescue, Canada’s busiest civilian search and rescue team.
