About Matthew Wallace

Presently, I work at Joy Cone Company in Flagstaff, Arizona. I pride myself on ensuring the employees at Joy Cone leave our facility the same way they came in. My academics and experience provide a sound experimental background of health and safety. Before I found my passion for EHS I took courses such as Cartography, GIS and earth classes to pursue Environmental Science. With having a background of Environmental classes coupled with the health and safety classes I’m undergoing now, I believe this combination of courses serves a good base of understanding in the line of work of many EHS careers. During my time at the Sharon Sanitation Authority I started on the bottom and rose to become a respected young worker in a construction field. Once promoted to crew leader I was responsible for young worker’s PPE and practicing safe work procedures. I developed management skills by being in charge of on-time project operations of various construction and roadway projects. I also developed and gained the ability to present and persuade people into doing safe work procedures and correctly operating tools and equipment. I was asked to be to be on the Sharon Sanitary safety committee to identify problems and to find solutions of unsafe work conditions or operations. This was beneficial to me as it gave me an inside look and real life example of how a safety committee operates and to see the processes first hand.
