About Matthew Walters

As a current law student at the University of San Diego, I bring a unique perspective and diverse skills to the legal field. I spent four years in the Navy before pursuing college and law school. During this time, I gained invaluable experience in managerial and administrative tasks, working on F-18s at TopGun and other duty stations.Currently, I am fortunate to gain practical experience in two different legal settings. At the USD Veterans Legal Clinic, I have the opportunity to work directly with clients and help them navigate the legal system to secure the benefits they deserve. Simultaneously, I work at the Law Offices of Christopher A. Villasenor, a personal injury firm, which has exposed me to the litigation process and strengthened my analytical and technical skills.Interestingly, I developed a passion for another sector of law: employment law. My first exposure to labor and employment law came while clerking for a US Magistrate Judge during the Summer of my 1L. The passionate advocacy for the rights of employees and for creating equitable workplaces excited me and drew me into this practice area. My wide range of experience as a Judicial Extern, a veteran, a law clerk at a personal injury firm, and an intern at the USD Veterans Legal Clinic will aid me in connecting with clients and ensuring they are afforded the representation they deserve.
