About Matthew Weidman

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering technology from Oregon Institute of Technology in 2006, with a specialization in electro-optics and minor in applied mathematics, I did my graduate work in optics at CREOL at the University of Central Florida. Finishing my PhD in 2012 under the direction of Prof. Richardson in the area of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, laser ablation and laser filamentation, I then moved in 2013 to the laboratory of attosecond physics directed by Prof. Ferenc Krausz (Physics Nobel Prize 2023) at the Max-Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) near Munich Germany. From 2019-2022 I had the privilege to serve as a research group leader, while, at the same time, being employed as a civil servant at the Ludwig Maximilian University, where I taught optics and photonics in the physics department. In 2022, following the birth of my daughter, I made the transition to the private sector. Working now at Mynaric, I have since been working primarily in multi-disciplinary teams to solve the company’s biggest challenges and have enjoyed the synergy of these team projects. Since Summer 2024, I've have the privilege of leading a team of talented optical design and photonic engineers, and I've have enjoyed learning something new every day
