About Matthew Weiler

Up until grade 9, I had no interest in computers. I only took a computer science course to fill-out my electives. Little did I know that I would fall in love with programming, at the time Turbo Pascal/Delphi, which changed the trajectory of my life. I then went on to attend the University of Windsor during which time I learned a lot and earned a bachelors degree in computer science.I started my programming career 17 years ago working as a coop student for Emergis which was a tech company in the healthcare industry. I spent 2 summer terms working at Emergis and was offered full time employment upon my graduation. Shortly after I was hired as full time, Emergis was purchased by Telus and we were branded as Telus Health.I spent the first 5 years of my professional career working at Telus Health at which point I wanted to take on a new challenge and so I left and began working for Skura, a tech company in the pharmaceutical industry. I enjoyed my new job as it was quite different, I learned many new skills and make new friendships that are strong to this day. But after 3 years of working at Skura I received a call from an old colleague at Telus Health asking me to return as there was a perfect role for me. I felt that since I had learned a great deal during my time away from Telus Health and was able to bring a lot of experience back.One of my favorite thing to do is to build efficient and scalable web services, I find it so gratifying to build a web service that can be tested at scale and perform beyond expectations. I also have really enjoyed developing web applications using React.js with TypeScript. I have found that a web application developer must have solid CSS skills otherwise it is very difficult to create responsive web applications, as such I have honed my CSS skills.My specialties include quickly learning new systems and adapting. So far I have Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, CSS, HTML, React.js, C#, Spring Boot and Git/GitHub under my belt. I have also been told that I am very good at explaining concepts and onboarding of new employees.
