Background
About Matthias Pietsch
My passion is software development in the field of numerical simulation and visualization. I started alone, and today I'm in charge of 140 software engineers. So my expertise is in scaling software development, and I discovered agile development as my key to success. As director of R&D in a mid-sized software development organization with 140 software engineers I found myself in a rather conservative enviroment. Agility turned out to be both the answer to scaling software development and to turning a startup into a mature company, by forging individual pioneers into a collective intelligence shaped by a new generation of managers. The transition to agile is a journey: there is neither an exact to-be nor a straightforward planned implementation. Establishing alignment, accountability, and collaboration in an agile environment requires resilience, flexibility, and creativity to change mindsets and processes. My stations Enthusiastic programmer in my own startup, pioneer in computer visualisation and animation of automotive production processes. Building up the Virtual Process Planning department at inpro Berlin, a subsidiary of VW, Daimler, Thyssen, BASF. In the early days of numerical simulation of BiW production processes, I headed a group of 30 highly qualified mechanical and software engineers and facilitated a collaborative exchange between research, practitioners and top management on innovations in production planning of the automotive industry. Designing CAD/CAE software products in a commercial environment, worked with top level software engineers to develop new products, and developed the business in global partnership with worldwide automotive companies and their suppliers. As Director R&D and member of the Executive Board at AutoForm Engineering, I see my focus today in the scaled agile transformation of interdisciplinary and engineering-oriented development while building interfaces to classically organized customers and processes. Professional Skills Scaled Agile Development, Team Development, Business Development, Product Development Domain Skills CAD, CAE, Automotive Industry Privately, I've become a fan of the Maker community. I build or work with 3D scanners, 3D printers, and also CNC mills and lathes. I'm fascinated by how previously inaccessible manufacturing is opening up to a community of people interested in designing and building real things, following principles that were once the domain of Open Source software makers. Always interested in professionalizing software development and the 3D printing domain.
