Transformation researcher, economic historian, and social theorist. Matthias Schmelzer is Professor for Social-Ecological Transformation Research at the University of Flensburg, Director of the Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design & Research, head of the master program Transformation Studies in Flensburg and teaches in the International Degrowth Master (Autonomous University Barcelona). His main interests include the challenges of social-ecological transformations, global history of capitalism, climate catastrophe, neoliberalism, social movements, and alternative economics. He is author of the award-winning "The Hegemony of Growth. The OECD and the Making of the Economic Growth Paradigm", co-author of "The Future is Degrowth: A Guide to a World Beyond Capitalism", and has written and edited several other books and numerous articles on social-ecological transformation, 20th century social and economic history, monetary politics, international organizations, critiques of growth and degrowth.
