Previously, as the Founding Principal Scientist and Head of the Hub for Advanced Image Reconstruction at EPFL's Center for Imaging, Matthieu led a team developing foundation models and software for computational imaging systems, bridging computing and sensing to push the boundaries of imaging. His role also involved fostering interdisciplinary collaborations in imaging at EPFL and beyond. Before joining EPFL, Matthieu was a Research Data Scientist at IBM Research, where he explored various data science modalities, from geo-environmental monitoring and medical imagery to radio interferometry. Matthieu earned his BSc in 2013, MSc in 2015, and PhD in 2019 at EPFL. From 2020-2021, he worked as a research associate and lab manager with Prof. M. Vetterli, also serving as a lecturer at EPFL for the Master-level class "Mathematical Foundations of Signal Processing." His work, at the intersection of data science, computer vision, machine learning, software engineering, scientific computing, and natural sciences, has been widely recognized. He is a recipient of the IBM Research Prize in Computational Science (2015) and has secured substantial funding (~1 MCHF) through various grants. With robust industrial experience, Matthieu is proficient in coding practices, programming with Python/Matlab, high-performance computing, and more. Notably, he is the creator of the Pyxu package.
